Notes on verse:
In myself, I confess I am a poor weak creature, and my body and spirit may fail and be ready to faint under such temptations and tribulations as these. And I know I shall shortly return to the dust, out of which I was taken. But though I have no strength in myself; I have it in God, my never-failing refuge, to whom I will trust while I live, and who will be my portion to eternity.
This flesh has no value, it is dust and to dust it shall return.
1 Corinthians 15:45 “And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam [was made] a quickening spirit.”
He is saying, I no longer want to be flesh man, I want to be born of the spirit of God.
John 3:6 “That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.”
We see from this that, the birth that really counts is our new birth in the Lord Jesus Christ.
Galatians 2:20 “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.”
